The other day, I unearthed my old disc golf bags from storage.
I started playing in the late 90’s when I was in college at Iowa State University. I loved disc golf, and would play a round whenever I’d get a chance.
But, I haven’t played for at least 15 years. Probably more. And, wow, the game has changed since I last hurled a disc.
There are an incredible number of courses throughout the country. Even throughout Central Iowa. The uptake in disc golf has been astounding.
The technology of the discs has improved, too. I remember friends bending and contorting their discs to get them to sneak around bends and curves throughout the woods. Now, it seems like disc golf companies have anticipated all the moves you might want to make on a course and have a specialty disc just for you.
So, it’s time to lift the bag again. My curiosity got the best of me and I ended up picking up some new Innova discs. I’d played Innova back in the day, largely because that was the main brand sold by one of the local sporting goods stores in Ames. I was also probably a sucker for the graphics. Still am, as it turns out.
See y’all in the woods. It’s time to renew my game. Hopefully, I’ll drop more in the basket than a creek, but who knows. At least I’ll be outdoors.
